Sonny J. Willis is a native of Greensboro, N.C. and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He has worked in community theatre and education for years and is currently a music and drama specialist at Greensboro Day School, where he serves as the lower and middle school drama instructor and the middle and upper school choral director.

Sonny has received several accolades for his excellence in teaching, including "The Extra-Mile Award," given to a teacher who goes above and beyond the call of duty to enrich the lives of students at Greensboro Day School. He is passionate about theatre and has directed over 45 productions involving young people, including Honk, Narnia, Really Rosie, Through the Looking Glass, Kiddledywinks, Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, 101 Dalmatians Kids, Jungle Book Kids, Aristocats Kids, and Cinderella Kids. He has also served as accompanist for several shows, including Hello Dolly, Beauty and the Beast, and Wizard of Oz.

In addition to being an active educator, Sonny also enjoys composing choral music, instrumental music, and children's theatre musicals. Some of his musical adaptations include Chicken Little, Where the Wild Things Are, and The Sneetches. His original musical productions include, The Four Little Princesses, Run to the Rock, and The True Meaning of Christmas. Sonny has written and choreographed an educational DVD entitled Get Up and Stomp, which is available through Kindermusik International. He has worked extensively with recording artist and producer, David Willis, who has written music and recorded with hip hop artist, Jay-Z. Sonny's piano music was used by recording artist Pacewon, and was featured on their CD entitled Won.
